Now, I am thinking of my "three and three"s, as I recognize this to be a valid means of getting the creative juices flowing. Of course, I can't just stop there, since I am in this all alone. Nor can I do anything about what I come up with, yet, since I am piss poor broke*. Perhaps, one day, I shall carry out my home decorating plans, though. In the meantime, at least I can have fun.
On Facebook, earlier today, I posted these:
My three and three: Personal: pear bookends, big painting, copper dragonfly windchime
Style: velvet shirt jacket , turquoise beaded scarf, weird old brown plaid purse
Here is a photo of the pear bookends. I got them from Ross Dress for Less for approximately $7 each. They are some of my favorite things on earth, and, it amazes me, whenever I look at them, how beautiful and stylish they are and, yet, I still own them. The fact that they did not cost that much, the fact that they are functional, just makes them even better.
My big painting: The same boyfriend who gave me the moon mirror, gave me the canvas that ended up becoming this painting. He gave me the canvas so he could prove, once and for all, that I was no kind of artist at all and I would give up on the pretense. He was less than happy with the results, because, he liked them. As you can see, there is a reason he is not my boyfriend, now.
The velvet shirt jacket:
I've had this forever, but, almost have never worn it. It was too fancy for most places in Alaska or too lightweight. Now it's too fancy for mostplaces and too hot for Arizona.
Pretty though, no?
I cannot provide photos of the other things, just yet, as I don't know where they are. However, I can show you these other things, which are elements which will be staying around and so, must be incorporated into the total plan.
First off, there is a silver moon mirror, in a circle (but I dd not take the
full photo as I didn't want you to see badly dressed me or my messy room), which came from J.C. Penney's, as a gift from a boyfriend.
Then, a beautiful green lamp I found at Goodwill. Right now it has a Fleur de Lis necklace, in a darker silver tone, wrapped around it, but, that doesn't have to stay; either does the coppery shade with the burgundy trim; but, they both look darned good with the lamp, so, if they work with all else, they may as well stay.
Followed by a bown and green print purse, a green glass jar with gold top that is faintly reminiscent of the fleur de lis, and, a weird reddish brown bamboo print hat box. The purse may not end up in the living room. Maybe the hat box will or won't. But, yes to the green glass jar. It looks very nice, near the pears and the lamp.
This rug, which incorporates colors found in the pears, by the way, will be cleaned up and staying. It may be something that shows a lot, or, it may be something to mainly protect the floor from the furniture, but, it must stay. It's too right in color scheme and too already here to pass up.
Lastly, there is this aged copper-looking candleholder, which may also hold bottles of wine. Not sure if that's the point or not. I don't drink wine, so I don't know what I would do about that. I do know I am fine just looking at it as "modern" in design.
I can already see that I need a woven grass mat "rug", navy soft and velvety couch, and moss green silk curtains with copper metal tie backs. Woo hoo
Imagine that with walls the color of Jordan's room (a sort of medium turquoise)
opper curtain rods, silver metal rings for the curtains, moss green, spring green and turquoise pillows, with the doors to the heating area painted with a big mural of funky weirdness
*Piss poor broke is saying of old. Since no one ever explained it to me, or needed to, but, it seems to perplex many persons of youth, I shall just make up that it means someone who is too poor to pay the dime to get in a bathroom stall and use the facilities, from back in a time when pay toilet stalls were more common.
This, then, is my basic beginning thoughts for decorating my living room. Minus the dragonfly wind chime and the purse, which are probably out at Mom and Dad's (if the purse still exists) , and the turquoise beaded scarf, which is somewhere around here. No clue where, though.
